Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, the first black woman to represent Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives, died Wednesday after suffering an aneurysm, medical officials said. She was 58. Rep. She died at 6:12 p.m. ET Wednesday after her condition declined "throughout the course of the day and into this evening," according to a joint statement from her family, Huron Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic. The congresswoman had a full day of activity Tuesday, according to a statement from her office, "including planning for an upcoming forum on electoral reform, scheduled for September 4, 2008, at Cleveland State University." Elected in 1998, Tubbs Jones built a reputation in Congress for speaking out. In 2003, she was the only Ohioan in Congress to vote against a resolution supporting U.S. troops in Iraq. Today has been one of the most emotional days for me on twitter.

I read a beautiful obituary (click on the link in her twit) from Professor Kim that Rep. Stephanie Tubb Jones (Ohio) [first African American to represent the state of Ohio in the US Congress] had passed but then news reports broke that she was still alive (thanks @newmediajim here) so I had hope that Rep. Tubb Jones may pull through although the reports on her health were not encouraging.

This afternoon I went into meditation praying for her and thought of that chance meeting of seeing her at Filene's basement here in Washington, DC 3 months ago. She had a bright smile and was looking casually relaxed as she was in the shoe section with me perusing through the rows of shoes. Though we never exchanged words we did smile and giggle at each other for she knew that I knew who she was for I had seen her a few times while I worked on Capitol Hill 3 years ago for a US Senator.

Though the reports were all grim today I had hope that Rep. Stephanie Tubb Jones would hold on but God needed her desperately for her to be in his home now.

Rep. Tubb Jones will be missed and her family, friends, co-workers and the state of Ohio are all in my prayers.

Like most I am shocked and hurting, I know God will calm our souls. Just know her spirit is here. She is never gone for I always remember her smiling rosy cheeks reminding all of us that everything will be okay!

So here's an extremely edited version [meaning I've added some shit] of my email to Mary last night describing my evening and how it just seemed to go WAY down hill by the hour and into the wee hours of the morning [well I didn't tell her THAT part because THAT would make me psychic]!

I take Da Teen to his game and sit there waiting for it to begin, which of course means no gym for me. But all is not lost,  I can put some cardio in at the bootleg gym by my house. Score! While in the car I realize I'm starving.  Oh but wait, I also realize my wallet is at work which means no license and no money!!!!  Great! Guess now I'll have to starve until I can get back to my office, which btw didn't happen, that sucka is too far and way too isolated. Finally, game starts, by the fourth quarter we are tied and it's FREEZING out. WTF?!  Eventually, after going into OT we beat their asses by 6 pts. and head back to my apt. At this point Da Teen decides he wants me to drop him at the basketball game going at the Dykman courts, fine no problem.  Drop him, go get my sis, head to the gym! Woot! Enter the parking lot only to realize that Con Ed is working in the parking lot and there is NO parking! None! Nada! Zip!  So, we decide to park in the Target parking lot, we've got about an hour before they close so we should be good.  Go into the gym, change and realize the iPod IS IN THE DAMN CAR!!!!  Ugh. FINE! I opt to watch Family Guy, which btw was hilarious and I never find FG that funny, ever!  I bust out about 20 min total on both the ellip and the tmill before I head out to the lot because it's about to close. Oh did I mention the gym was HELLA packed?!  Yeah, sigh.  At this point Da Teen calls and asks me to bring him a sweater because it's cold as all hell out [sidenote: All hell? That would make it hot, wouldn't it?]. I oblige by sending my sister upstairs to get the sweater and dropping it off. Drive back home, drop my sis, drive to my block, find PERFECT PARKING and realize....my sister has my keys!!!! I don't think you all realize how HARD it is to find parking on my block, let alone IN FRONT OF MY BUILDING!!!!!

Now at this point I realize I have several options...a) drive to my sisters, get my keys & pray my perfect parking spot is still there, b) drive to my sisters, get my keys & pay for parking with the stash of cash I have upstairs or c) go to Phils and get my keys in the morning because there is ALWAYS parking by his house.  Guess which I picked? Yep, I drove my ass out to Phils job, picked him up, had him feed me [Wendy's To Go Wraps are the bomb] and dealt with his nasty attitude, all so I wouldn't have to pay for parking.

You thought I was done? No, not a chance. So I wake up at the crack of dawn and call my sis who isn't answering her phone. Finally I get her at like 6am. Head to her house, get my keys, go to my block, park alllllllllllll the way up the hill, only to realize there is parking right in front of my building. WTFever! Go upstairs, shower, get dressed, pack my bag and head back to the car. Pop in the car stereo and decide I want to listen to Hot 97 today.  Jam and laugh all the way to work. Stop at the coffee shop, buy 2 cups of coffee and a sandwich with the singles I had stashed in the house.  Get to the office, park, grab the bag, and the coffee and go for the iPod -- ummm...no iPod! It's at Phil's. Great! Fuckin' great! 8 - 10 hrs without music. Oh I'm definitely taking spin today. There's no way I'm getting on the t-mill w/o music. Ok, chalk it up, walk to my desk put down the bag of coffee and BAM coffee all over the floor! Both cups and the sandwich!

I should've paid for parking!

today was kinda blah.  not about getting older per se.  just extremely busy and i don't have the energy nor desire to keep up.  i'd rather go chill somewhere with a book and just enjoy being at home.  anything really but chasing the almighty dollar.

work is becoming not enough.  freelancing is becoming a pain in my behind.  after i finish these three projects i think i'm gonna be on freelance hiatus for the remainder of the year.  i need to refocus.  hmm... deja vu.

my son is 90% ready for the big shove off on thursday.  his mom is not!  i am getting more emotional every day.  *sigh*  not looking forward to this.  has to happen.  but.
